Visual Artist Based in Portugal
Raquel Amorim (Lisbon, 2005) is a visual artist completing her degree in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon. Her studies in the current Winter semester (2026/2027) will take place at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). Her practice develops across painting, object and installation, often extending beyond the pictorial surface into the surrounding space. Working with light, colour, geometry and an evolving range of materials, she explores the relationship between physical structures and the way they are perceived.
Her process is defined by precision and control. Each work emerges through a rigorous method of testing, measuring and constructing, where decisions concerning proportion, material, colour and light are carefully considered. This discipline allows the work to exist as a precise physical object while producing an experience that is deliberately less certain.
This apparent contradiction is central to her practice: control generates instability. What is rigorously constructed in the studio becomes shifting and unpredictable through the experience of the viewer. Light changes with distance, surfaces alternate between opacity and reflection, and forms that initially appear stable transform as the body moves around them.
Her work is therefore built through a series of complementary oppositions: control and uncertainty, surface and depth, structure and perception, stability and transformation. Rather than resolving these tensions, the artist allows them to coexist. The viewer encounters a work whose physical conditions have been precisely determined, but whose perception can never be entirely fixed. In this space between what is constructed and what is experienced, the viewer becomes an active part of the work.
