In-between I.II,III,IV, 2024. Acrylic on canvas, 116 x 89 cm
Raquel Amorim’s artistic project
In-between proposes the transposition of physical space into a mental one, establishing a dialogue between the tangible and the subjective. Inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s The Poetics of Space, the project explores “in-between spaces” — transitional zones that challenge conventional boundaries between interior and exterior, material and immaterial.
These “in-between spaces” are presented as places of pause and passage, where illusion and memory converge. The works invite the viewer to inhabit thresholds, to explore tensions, and to experience the fluidity between opposites: the real and the unreal, fullness and emptiness, inside and outside.
In-between is not merely a visual experience, but a reflection on the intimate and subjective relationship we establish with space. Its aim is not to offer definitive answers or guide us to a clear destination, but rather to awaken a sense of unease.
In-between seeks to instill a state of uncertainty, where paradox becomes the essence permeating the entire experience. This play of ambiguities mirrors the human condition: a restless search for meaning and clarity, even in the face of their unattainability.
